I am wondering which processor would be better for gaming, a 3.2GHz or so P4 or a 2.2GHzish PD. If you really know what you are talking about I would only get the 6xx series of P4 and the 9xx series of PD so adjust your answer accordingly... Thank You.

There's a new sheriff in town. This chip just came out and Intels pricing them to compete at not just the high end, but the low end models are going after the rest of the market. You can read about it here.

Here's a link with some game benchmarks

PS: I think the low end on these CORE 2 cpu's is gonna be like barely under $200. So, if that's more than you wanted to spend, I'm sure there will be good deals on the 2 you mentioned and in that case, I'd go with the low end Pentium D.

I looked at some benchmarks and for strictly gaming purposes the high end P4 6xx were easily beating the low-end PD 9xx series, so there is your answer. By the way if you are gonna spend a lot of money though, go with the new Core 2 Duo, they are the best processor out there right now, they out benchmarked AMDs top processor.

You don't need Expensive P4 cpu's when you only wanna assemble a pc for gaming purposes..

AMD's series of processors are the best when you're talking bout gaming CPU's...

Trust me..You don't need Intel's technology especially when building a Gaming PC..

Intel® Pentium® D 920 dual core processors or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processor would be best for the gamer. and let me tell you this if you buy higher then this then your wasting your money. because it does not make that much different.

Whatever chip you buy, get the one with the most cache you can afford. At least 1 MB with an 800 MHz FSB. Trust me, it does help.

I think an Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.93GHz, 1066MHz FSB would be perfect for you.
