Limewire is a shareware program. What i mean by that is you share files on your computer with other users of limewire (only the files in your limewire share folder) But as for the legality of it, I'm not sure, I say that because most Limewire uses download porn and MP3's, I have lots of MP3's that i have downloaded using Limewire 30GB.
If it's just you and your family watching the movie, I can't see a problem with it, If you copy that movie onto a disc and try to sell it, that's illegal

Ya, its illegal.
Actually, Limewire is just a client.
The network you are downloading through Limewire is called "Gnutella2".
It downloads the file from other users who wish to share the movie with fellow users.
But, you cant have problems with illegal movies unless you are monitored by RIAA or MPAA!

Go to LimeWire to see what they themselves have to say about copyright infringement.
If LimeWire was illegal, it would be shut down. What it is, is peer-to-peer file sharing. Lines are blurred in regard to legality issues when you're dealing with peer-to-peer file sharing.
See here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/ftc.shtml#8f. Better to get your answer from the source than from anywhere else. It includes info from the FTC.

It's legal in only one case...you having the original DVD.
Other than that, downloading any Non-Royalty-FREE program, audio, video, picture, document, etc is considered ILLEGAL and is a complete violation to the copyright law; which could result in a penalty, jail, or both.
