Why do people suggest Home Depot?

Do you people truly believe that those fools who make 10-13 dollars an hour would have the knowledge to help you perform your own home repair? They don't even know where items are for crying out loud! The most typical response is: "I don't work in this department. You have to ask someone who works here." So isn't it funny that NO ONE works in the particular aisle you're in? They're nothing but idiots trying to earn a living, fine I don't begrudge them. But please for your own sake, DO NOT ASK THEM FOR HOME REPAIR ADVISE!!!! If they knew the true answer, would they be working at Home Depot??? Think on that before you rip me a new one.

I agree a lot with you. The other day I was in a depot and asked the sales person what isle will I find the "3 in1oil". His reply is what's that? And how many years has this product been on the market....I was totally blown away buy his stupidity. I have found that as the years pass that Home Depot are getting less and less qualified people. Like most companys now that have cut back so much they are not offering proper training to have knowledgeable sales people. Sometimes it's better to deal with the smaller ma pa type hardware stores, the service is better and usually they know what they are talking about.

Hmm, the people I talk to at Home Depot are usually a bit more knowledgeable.

Usually, you should have a pretty good idea about what you need to do on your home repair in the first place. The Home Depot guys are just a sort of double check. They tend to spend a lot of time talking to people doing home repairs, and at some point, of they've been working there for more than a few weeks, they should have come across something remotely similar to your problem, and might point out a different (possibly cheaper, or better) way to fix your problem that they heard from someone else.

Now really though, thirteen dollars an hour isn't bad pay, and anyone making that kind of money can afford a run down house of their own to repair. If they work at Home Depot, they probably would gothat route instead of an apartment, where they'll never see any of the money they spend on rent again.

Personally I prefer Lowes to home depot. And not everyone there is an idiot that works at those stores. Alot of the people know exactly what their doing and have been trained to do so. My brother worked at Lowes and knew everything about his Dept. and even some surrounding ones. If you have never worked at a place where you have to help people then you really shouldnt bi tch and complain.

I suggest Home Depot because of their pricing.

I agree that most of their employees are novices and unqualified to provide any advice. Some of the electrical answers I heard the local employees offering to their customers scares the hell out of me. If people go to Home Depot for advice, I suggest getting one of their home improvement books.

some of the people on this site have no idea what to. in that case any suggestion is of some help. they also have FREE classes.
Home depot is a generic answer for a large hardware store in your hood.

I agree with what you say. I never ask them for any advice and I have learned to not even look for a clerk. I just go to the counter and ask someone for help and tell them what I want and insist that they help me. It pays sometimes to play the partt of the dumb and confused woman.

You are so right .......If you need good advise go to ACE Hardware They usually have older folk that are retired that have work as a electrician,plumber or whatever they retired from.
Not all but most ACE hire these type of ppl.
