There are actually no disadvantages for having a firewall in your computer, it protects yourself from online hackers and other internet activity that tries to go into your PC.

The only headaches this can cause is that when you try to use a P2P program, it will block it or when download certain files...etc...:)

Your question is very broad, but I'll make a few assumptions and offer my thoughts. I'm assuming:
You're talking about a Windows OS since you don't specify.
When you say disadvantages of a firewall you mean any firewall.
When you say software firewall, you mean software like zonealarm or norton that run on the computer you're trying to protect.

There is no real disadvantage I can think of for a firewall except perhaps the resources it consumes and the theoretically slower network speed you get, but I've never heard of this being a practical problem.

A firewall exists to restrict the sorts of network packets that go into or out of your system. Any firewall will stop unwanted connection requests from the outside, which is a good thing but only one small piece in the security picture.

Most of the "software firewalls" attempt to provide outbound protection, where they watch what programs are trying to connect to the outside, and give you a chance to block them. The problem with this is it is trivially easy to circumvent the parts of the Windows networking that are scanned by these programs, and you can be sure any malware will do that. Not to mention you've already lost the battle if the malware is already on your computer to be trying to connect to the outside.

In my opinion, there are no disadvantages if you take the time to learn how to use them. I keep my WindowsXP firewall on, and the Norton firewall off.

Two firewalls will only fight each other. One is sufficient. You can block addresses through the firewall, or, when notified that "whoever" is trying to gain access - and you wish to - you can allow it.

Yahoo Mail scans e-mail attachments and warns you if there is a problem. I know this because I tried to open what I thought was a legitimate attachment and Norton would not allow it. Said it contained a worm. Saved my @#$%^.
