Just another expression to say you're not kidding or joking around. But I know I've said both and right now I AM so tired it's not even funny!!! :)

As a mom of two girls, wife, full time college student, and part time employee, I can totally understand that comment. It's not funny, but it's a slang term that means that you are so tired or your head hurts so much, you are beyond any type of logical behavior.

Because everything is suppose to be lighthearted and funny but when you hurt really bad or if you are really tired then you are to hurt or tired to laugh.

My guess is it has something to do with either A) they're telling people that they're that tired or in pain that a joke won't cheer them up or B) they're beyond that point where, you know, if something bad happens, sometimes people deal with it by just laughing - it's just a natural response - but they're beyond that point.
