Ashutosh Gowariker is an Indian film director and actor. His films include critically acclaimed Lagaan, released in 2001, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Other films include Swades, released in 2004, which received mixed reviews by Indian critics, but is considered to be much more popular overseas. He is known to be an actor's director. Each of his male stars went on to win the Filmfare Best Actor award.
Ashutosh started his career against Bhagyashree in a Television serial called Kachchi Dhoop. He also played roles in other serials like Circus and C.I.D.. Ashutosh has also acted in several films, few of which are Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Indrajeet and Gawahi.
