So it not might be much, but what modifications can I do to an '86 300zx with three thousand dollars (that works completely perfectly by the way)? Either I get a cheap used car or I spend that budget to modify the Nissan...any advice? Thanks, I appreciate it!

Engine: If it's not a turbo, swap in the turbo engine (I believe they used different pistons and may have had other internal differences, so swapping the whole engine is likely to be more cost effective). Get a larger turbo, as the stock Nissan one is pretty small. Add a big front-mounted intercooler. Finish it with an aftermarket boost control (or a "Grainger Valve" as you're on a budget) so you can turn up the boost.

Suspension: Start with good performance tires and Koni shocks. Depending on your preference and how much you have left over from engine work, you could go with aftermarket springs, sway bars, or both.

Other: Remove unnecessary weight whenever possible.

well if it's not a turbo car... I would save the 3000 dollars. The NT 300zx just does not respond very well to mods. If you want something just to fool around with... buy something from the early-mid 90's with a turbo. Something like a RX-7, Turbo Eclipse-Talon-Laser, etc.

Keep it and fix it up. You're not going to get a very reliable car for 3K and if this car works, keep it.
