Babe Ruth hit some home runs. I think the Yankees had a team that year that is considered the best team ever (if you factor out players of all races other than white, current legitimate exercise and diet training methods, modern eqiupment, modern hitting and pitching techniques, and steroids).
Sorry, I think that was the '27 yanks now that I think about it...but hey they had to be pretty good in '29 also..that's only 2 years later.

Biggest event was the Stock Market Crash as the prelude to the Great Depression, the rise of Communism and Fascism, and eventually World War 2.
Yes, the Great Depression affected others around the world, particularly Germany, who was still struggling just to survive after being punished heavily in the Treaty of Versailles after WW1. The stuff that happened would give rise to a person named Adolf Hitler, who would exploit this situation and help cause stuff to happen the way it did in the years following 1929.
