I am 4 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy. I am experiencing 'normal' ? stuff? I am not 'showing' but I do notice that my stomach sticks out more? I am trying to watch what I eat, but it's more like I can't hold my stomach in like I used to, it kinda hurts to hold it in. Is this normal? Also when I stretch out, like when I yawn, It hurts in my abdomen as well. This normally doesn't happen, but I wasn't sure what the connection would be as I am only a little over 4 wks preg. I am also wondering if my stomach sticking out ( a LITTLE) could be bloating?

Wow, what interesting answers. To all of your responses, I am not 'dieting'! I am just making sure I eat healthy foods and not junk food! It seems like my stomach got bigger and knowing that it wasn't that baby I was curious if it was bloating, and hopefully not eating too much. I am trying to eat foods for the baby and yes I know a FEW extra calories here and there are for baby. The baby at this stage only needs about 300 extra calories, so I don't need to pig out just yet! As far as holding my stomach in, it just is something I do, which surprised me that it hurts now. Like I said.... Just curious! : )

I would say this is bloating. It is one of the first side effects of pregnancy. I used to feel like there was a balloon just sitting right there below my belly button.

First of all you are only 4 weeks. second of all, why are you holding your stomach in? It's only gonna get bigger and you wont be able to hold it in at all. I kow this is your first child but you should have some kind of sense here. Seems like you have a problem with gaining weight because you are pregnant. You need someserious help. I'm pregnant with my first also and I was nowhere near as self conscious about my stomach as you are. The hurting feeling you experience during yawning is probably from you holding your stomach in so much. You are pregnant, this is no time to diet. But you should limit you salt intake or you'll be swollen. I'm not saying pig out, but the baby needs to get his/her nutrition as well.

Congrats on becoming a Mommy! :)

My first thought is, "Why is she trying to hold her stomach in?". Are you trying to hide your pregnancy, or is there another reason?

I've never been pregnant, so I don't have much advice to give. However, I have compiled a list of websites you may enjoy, and you will likely find all the info you could ever ask for at these sites.

Bloating yes the baby no. The child is wayyyyyy to small to cause you to show even if you are a small person. Try to just enjoy your pregnancy and dont worry so much about what your eating.

Why are you even holding your stomach in for? And since your pregnant you have a fetus in your womb and that is probably why it hurts. QUIT holding you stomach in. You may not be showing, but you are growing and your going to continue to for the next 36 weeks. Congrats on you baby to be.

A little bloating is normal. You shouldn't be showing this early and try not to restrict your diet too much. The first trimester is extremely crucial to your babies development and restricting your diet could deprive you and your baby of important nutrients.

Baby don't hold your tummy in, you have a baby in there, it's going to stick out, and that's ok...smile You know, when you hold your stomach in your contracting muscles, it's like exercising and when you exercise, your body hurts, so I'm assuming when you stretch, after hold in your tummy, your making your muscles sore. If your tummy continues to bother you, go to the doctor and have them check it out...smile
