Definitely! you can be happy for your son or daughter when they win a soccer game ,but you are not truly happy if you and your husband or wife ,were just thinking about getting a divorce before the game.So you can totally be joyful but not happy.

You can also be content but not joyful because if you ate a big buffet after being hungry for 2 days you will be content but not joyful or happy if you had found out that your whole family had died 2 days ago.
Sorry for being a little harsh on my examples :)

If I am content my needs are being met but does that make me happy...perhaps if that is all I desire. If all I desire is being met and there is nothing more I want in that moment then I am in a state of being joyful....however if I have everything I need and want in the moment I may not be happy if I am worried about losing all that I have.

To me, it seems it's a matter of definition of terms. I'd refer you to dictionary.

I think joyful is more realted to the outlook of the world. Joyful person just enjoys the world around them, looks at better things, looks away from bad stuff.

"Happy" is like joyful outlook internalized.

"Content" is a "milder" form of "happy": it's like you decided to be happy because things cannot be better, and you've accepted it and decided it's OK.

Use this examples: "I'm overjoyed to meet you. I'm happy that I've met you. I'm content with the fact that I have met you."
"I'm overjoyed by my marriage. I'm happy in my marriage. I'm content with my marriage." Although it seems a bit silly, it kind of gives the idea.

A truly miserable and unhappy person may experience a sudden burst of joy.

One should be content and then joy is not important. Joy in everyday circumstance creates contentment.

One does not need to be happy to feel contentment.

Contentment is the solidarity of joy and happiness.

Contentment is the sum total of happy joy.

joyful is to be experiencing happiness.

you can be content but not truly happy ---- I was content on my birthday but I couldn't be joyful because I had to spend it alone.
