We discussed this in a class I had in College 48 years ago.. 10:10 is the only place on the clock that the Hands find a balance in appearance.
At that time we also found out that they have used it in pictures of clocks since the Early Eighteenth Century.

I love this question. 10:10 is binary. It also seems like a marketing ploy to get shoppers out there early. it could be an agreed upon standard as it refers to both night and day...I mean it's a photo thing. it's the binary that gets me. is it sexy? freud would love you. a directional shaft, then opening, shaft, then opening. you're too smart.
