see, if he ends up taking votes AWAY from the democrats, thats actually making both of them weaker. so, while he's doing what he believes in, or for whatever reasons he's doing it, this might actually be worse for the democrats overall, and make the republicans a little harder to beat.

If Lieberman is a Democrat so is Bush! All he is, is a Republican disguised as a Democrat. Had he been able to serve as VP after Al Gore won the election in 2000 things would probably be a lot different. For one thing, we wouldn't be in Iraq in the first place and we wouldn't have that disgusting picture of Gay Georgey planting a kiss on Joe. Maybe he decided that if you can't lick 'em, join 'em. He's a disgrace to the Democratic party.

We need more choices. A lot of people call him a spoiler, but I think this "I'm a Democrat! Republicans suck!" or "I am a Republican! Democrats are stupid!" thing is killing our political system. We are about the only two-party managed political system in the world, and it has left us a choice between two marginalized political parties that have no real differences in the way that they govern.
I wish a Republican would splinter from their party and run as an independent, we might start seeing some more choices in politics than *** or elephant.
EDIT: I completely forgot to mention one thing: Lieberman really isn't so hot for me. I am glad he is running, but I wouldn't vote for him. I'm going Green party.

As far as I'm concerned, Lieberman is not a Democrat anymore. The Democrats voted him out of office and now he is trying to split the party and might be responsible for a Republican victory in November. I expect a few in the DLC will still support him, but mostly it will be people like Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity giving the words of praise. 86% of Democrats oppose the war in Iraq, that does NOT make them the radical left. That is just another Republican talking point, that Joe is now parroting.

Well, Leiberman doesn't have much of a choice about going Independent -- the Democratic party isn't going to back him, and he wants to run. Frankly, I think he is still a Democrat. He is just finding a different way to get what he wants.

Well as he lost the primaries, he chose to go Indepnd.
I think that Lieberman has a great chance of getting reelected. I see this as an advantage for him. As he does not always "see eye to eye" with the dem party, he will have more latitude and less flack.
As a repub, I have never viewed Lieberman as a true left wing dem. I wondered why he actually ran with Ozone Al. I thought Lieberman would have had a better chance at the Pres. I like him. I don't always agree with his politics, but I like him.

All I can say is that the only two true successful Indepenedents ever were Ross Perot and Teddy Roosevelt. I think it's safe to say the Mr. Lieberman is nowhere near to either of the geniuses of these men, so end of story. And no he could never have been an effective VP.

What's the harm in him running as an independent? I can't think of anything. The world didn't come to a screeching halt when Perot ran for president. Sometimes, it's nice to have more than two options. An independent of Lieberman's caliber gives his consituants three good choices.

Anyone who is in favor of the war in Iraq and who openly states they will support Israeli causes above American ones is not a real Democrat and not a real American. Lieberman has stated he supports the war and has stated that he supports Israeli causes even above American ones. No American elected official should be able to put the needs of any other nation, even the needs of an ally, as being pre-eminent to the needs of his or her own nation. Lieberman should not be running for office at all if he's not willing to put US interests first, even ahead of an allied nation.

If Lieberman is really a Democrat, he should not become an Independent. It is like jumping out of the boat when people needs him.
