Yes, I do and you should too. Every woman after 18 should have a regular pap smear and breast exam. Even teenage girls can get breast and cervical cancer and both are treatable if caught early. Older women particularly need exams because when you're older, more things can go wrong.

I do - it's really the smart thing. You need to have a pap smear
and a pelvic exam, as well as a breast exam to see if there are
lumps in them.
You mustn't be afraid, you can get a woman OBGYN if that helps
but you can get cervical cancer, pelvic inflammatory disease,
endrometriosis, and other things that need the attention of a Dr.
It doesn't take long & I won't say it isn't comfortable, but in the
long run, you are keeping yourself in good health. And don't listen
to that person who says you should go at age 35 - like I said, &
some others here too, if you have any disease or an STD you
will need to see someone - it just makes good sense.

Not a great idea.... Especially if you wish to be at top form to have children some day.
How do you know that there is nothing wrong, or the converse that everything is functioning well if you haven't gone in yet.
It is recommended that you go in by age 21. You are 23. You shouldn't delay what should have become just normal for your health.

To echo what everyone else has said, you really should make this appt as soon as possible. It doesn't have to be with an OBGYN, if you have a family practice doctor that you go to for colds and other stuff you can even get it done there if that is better for you.The pap smear is screeing for cervical cancer and women do die from cervical cancer. As well, if you are sexually active, it is an excellent time to annualy check for sexually transmitted infections. Untreated, STDs can lead to infertility. The whole pelvic can be uncomfortable, but try to relax, tell the doctor it is your first pelvic exam so they can be sure to explain everything to you and you will do just fine. OK...go make that appt girl!!

I go for my yearly exam because I dont want to take the risk of getting any kind of STD or discovering I have something wrong down there or something else wrong like breast cancer. I also go because I was diagnosed with endometriosis although that is now "cured" due to a hysterectomy. Its best to go yearly. No one wants to be with a woman that dont take care of her health especially down there. I sure wouldnt want to be with a woman that delays seeing a GYN if I was a man. It doesnt even hurt when I go. All that happens is I get weighed, get my urine checked for proteins and infections, get my blood pressure done, get checked down there and get tested for STDs which thank god I have never had.

I take it you are a virgin. If you have had sex, even once, you may have been exposed to HPV - Human Papiloma Virus. One among many possible predators. There are treatments for early conditions, including cervical cancer - Yes, it occurs in young women. My daughter had sex with a guy who 'did it' with anyone and everyone. She had the pap smear of a prostitute and cervical cancer by 21. It took two massive cold cone proceedures to clean it up. She is still alive, with two children, at 38 years old. But will you be that lucky? And by all means do your self breast exam and GET THEM MAMMIES GRAMMED!!!

Me! It's very important.

You NEED to go! DON'T delay!!!!!Uncomfortable as it may be, they have ways of detecting all sorts of things that you wouldn't want to go too long with having! Early detection (same with breast exams) is most important!

Even if you're not sexually active, you need to go! I had my first at 18 and yearly, ever since. I'm 43 now. I wasn't sexually active until the age of 23.

I'm also 23 and have been every year since I was 18. You should really go, especially if you're sexually active. The whole purpose is to check for cervical cancer...you usually have to request for STD tests...take care of yourself.
