limewire, that will do it
also you could have downloaded a ton of viruses and adwere.
when connecting to the Internet when your not downloading have limewire off as its eating your bandwidth and ram. then have, keep up to date and run a good anti-virus program. also you should have lava soft add-aware and spy bot search and destroy, keep them both up to date and run the often.

maybe your RAM memory is limited, that's usually make the laptop slow, or some programs aren't running well. you can upgrade your RAM's laptop or uninstall the limewire n google earth n try to download it again

probably spyware or items running resident in memory. I recommend the use of a program called Startup Mechanic... it is freeware so it is best cause it is cheep... works good for allowing you to identify and remove programs that use memory and processor time to make things somewhat faster

google earth brought my brand new Velocity Micro to a crawl, I uninstalled it then ran an updated version of Spybot Search and Destroy (free online) then ran ClearProg_1.4.2_Beta11 (free online) then restared my computer and it worked just fine
I'm sure there is a better way, I'll be monitoring this question

install ad-aware (as recommended before) and then run download, install, and run ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com). it'll clean out your computer really well. after that, then defrag.
once you've done all of the above, you should be good to go!
hope that helps :-)
