To satisfy your oral fixation-
Chew gum
Gnaw on straws/toothpicks
For your hands-
Stress ball
With your smoking hand rub your skin/tendons on your opposite hand between your thumb and index finger making tiny circles
For weight gain-
While not smoking you'll find it easier and enjoyable to jog/swim/cycle
Do it cold turkey, no cutting down to a few a day, throw away your last pack spontaneously.
Be done with it.

My other half smoked and was always lean as if he felt a little bit hungry, he'd have a cigarette (not as a diet aid you understand), and of course, you can't eat and smoke so after the cig he wouldn't feel hungry. When he gave up smoking he did gain about 12lbs, he said this was because he now could taste food properly, so whereas before he wouldn't eat much, now everything tasted miles better he would ignore the 'full up - stop eating' signs. He joined a gym, lost the weight and is now back to his former lean self - he was about 32 when he did this and it took him about 2 years, but he wasn't wanting to be a body building buff, just for health and fitness. Join a gym, start running to burn the fat then do weights - get advice from a gym trainer though - eat protein to help with the muscle growth (again, trainer will give you ndepth advice on why this is important).

Well they say that it's harder to quit cigarettes than it is Heroin. I've heard that more than once through the years..and how many ex-heroin addicts are there? Not many...I tortured myself for three months a few years ago by trying to quit. Food did not taste one bit better but I sure ate a lot of it..lol I said I ate anything that wasn't frozen or moldy.. Gained 15 lbs. in 3 months..so do I die of obesity or from smoking? Well, I actually enjoy smoking, I don't care what anyone says..so I went back. If you really want to quit one day, you'll just wake up and say..This is it.. no more..

Well, I quit in Feb. 2004 and had no problems with quiting what-so-ever. There is a little more to the story though. I was in a coma for over three weeks and then after I came out of the coma, I had to have my lungs scraped. I was in the hospital for a total of 6 weeks and when I came out the very last thing on earth I wanted was a cigarette and still holds true today. Most of what I went through was because of smoking. I had 12 inches of my Aorta where it goes into my heart replaced with a synthetic tube. I have a metal heart valve and am now on Coumadin for the rest of my life. I had a heart attack during the operation and then had to have Dialysis for three weeks. Lots more but I think you get the picture. Smoking is very bad for you.

OK, this I know... I smoked for 40 years !!! and I have been free for almost 6 years now... I did not take any patches or anything ( read the label on those things, that will convince you not to use them ) I took me TWO YEARS to quit... TWO YEARS and I don't know how many tries.... and you can NOT CUT DOWN... doesn't work... you just have to go cold turkey... not even one a day. I had a heart attack at FIFTY YEARS OLD and was told to quit... you just keep trying until you do it !!! I used to picture all the tobacco executives out on their yachts that I bought for them... they're laughing at me and rolling around in MY MONEY !!! that helped a lot !!! just keep trying, believe me, quittin is a much easier solution than heart surgery !!! GOOD LUCK, you can do it !!!

cover yourself with a wet blanket - that should smother the smoke! HA! sorry i had to be silly at least once this evening.
that is tough. I never smoked but know many that did and do. my dad started chewing toothpicks then gum. knew of another that went to a pipe.
talk to you doctor and see what is now available. i would keep busy and drink lots of water. granted you will be pishing more but that will help flush out the bad. just my 2 cents worth. Good luck and you can do it!

there is what they call the 3 day hump...really and truly it takes only 3 days for your body to "get over" it's addiction to nicotine. if you can make it - you're 60% more likely NOT to start up again.
this is how i quit: cold turkey! it's mind over matter..it took me 3 attempts, last year, but i am smoke free now!!!
i just kept reminding myself how dirty/disgusting/unhealthy it was.
the hardest part is being around friends/family that still smokes.
can you get a buddy to quit with you? that might help

just do it...seriously...i did it after a year of smoking ( i know thats not too much but still...) and i didn't gain weight or anything...and yes it was cold turkey. you just have to set your mind to it and drink water or chew gum if you have a craving...you could also read the Bible or pray if you (if you are into that). It really is inspirational!

You're dreaming. I've done them all...gum, patches, lozenges and now pills. I'm on day 8 and still have cravings and suddenly food is tasting better which is a new danger. If you find something, bag it, box it and sell it...you'll be the next new millionaire.

im a smoker. & its hard to quit. but i do know how to stop the wieght gain. the reason people gain weight when they quit smoking is because they're just trying to keep them selves from being bored/smoking a cigarette. its a known fact that when people get bored, they eat. so just keep yourself busy. ive found that doing something with my hands keeps me from smoking. & i eat sunflower seeds (the ones with the shells on) to keep myself busy. theyre good for you, so no weight gain.
