People want proof of the afterlife, so they won't feel so afraid of dying themselves. No one wants to believe that they will cease to exist once they go into the grave. Human survival instinct is too high.

Ghost Hunting has been around for a long, long time. It generally got started during the Victorian era, when there was a great fascination with the occult and seances and the like. It only got put into the spotlight again with the advent of cable t.v. and shows like Ghost Hunters, Dead Famous, Most Haunted and the like. Truth is the little local cable t.v. channels always had some form of ghost hunter type program (at least where I live).
Why the fascination? For some it is to find the answer to "What happens when we die"? For others it is to prove that ghosts don't exists (yes there are those out there that do it for that reason). Others for a hobby. For me it is therapy and to answer the big question.

I think people are fascinated with contacting loved ones and finding out what lies beyond death. I myself am a fan of ghost hunting because it's so thrilling. You never know what you may find. It's also fun to pick up on the history of a place that's haunted and possibly get to see spirits of the past that once dwelled there.

It isnt necessarily fascination with the dead, but rather a fascination with the unknown. Ghosts, spirits and the paranormal present us with a whole other level of things to consider, analyze and explain. Plus the adrenaline rush must be awesome.

Sci Fi channel started airing "Ghost Hunters". Now it seems like every cable channel has a similar show. It's fascination of the unknown, not particularly the dead.

The realm of the unknown. So many intriguing thoughts (imagination). Life long stories/ tales of horror and death have become embedded in the minds of those exposed to such tales or real life experiences with such things. The harder something is to grasp the more you long for it.

I think it's human nature to question what we can't explain-if there's no explanation, what else is there? Plus, it's appealing to think that there's life after this physical one-our thoughts, memories, dreams, energy, spirit, will continue on despite the death of our physical being. Who wants to believe that this is it? That after physical death, there's nothingness...that's actually sad to think after everything we try to accomplish, that it's just gone.

I think people have a lot of time on there hands and need something to fill it or it could be a new trend. It's entertainment we all like to be entertained. How we do it is up to us.
