This sounds like a homework question...

Anyway, scientist's job is to create new information and publish it for others to use. If there is misconduct (false information, etc.) then others waste time trying to recreate the results, or others follow that work and waste even more time on flawed ideas.

Also, in science, research is funded by the government. So if you're doing unethical research, you're screwing the taxpayer.

Further, in some fields you conduct research on human or animal subjects, in which case ethical misconduct is very serious as life can be harmed.

Finally, there is danger if you're researching a weapon or other device (like a virus) that could get loose and harm people.

Pure research depends on and builds upon reliable results of previous works. Standing on the shoulders of giants to see farther.

Unfortunately, resources are tight and researcher are under commercial pressure to publish or perish. And there is a lot of BS science out there. Vetting all that makes progress very slow - or worse can deliberately misguide to waste someone's time.

Science has no moral high ground compared to other human endeavors - but it would be nice to be able to use the "principles" to focus on progress rather than police the domain.

Science seeks to prove concepts and theory through repeative reproducable testing and results.

It's also what gives us answers to the previously unknown.

Ethics keep scientist from using animals, humans and other living creatures from intentional cruel harm to prove and test these theories except under a strict rule base such as animal drug testing etc.

Think about history and what some doctors during the second world war were reported to have done to prisioners.

Medical science moved forward by leaps and bounds but at what cost to humanity as a whole to gain the knowledge through sufferring?
