It doesn't sound like road noise (new tires), it's more like the tranny, but in a turn it goes quiet. The noise is constant and when excelerating it gets louder & louder. Any ideas?

Not a wheel bearing, its like a loud groaning gear noise. Seems to come from center of van.

if it goes away in a turn thats a classic sound of a wheel bearing, if you unload and load the bearing the noise with change, try that, go from right to left and see if it gets louder and quieter. also i had an olds cutlass that i swore up and down i had a bad bearing in the rear to only find out that the tires i thought were good were actually bad and created a horrible noise going down the road. Now it could also be the transaxle, which yes is the transmission but its the part that acts like a typical rearend with gears and if there worn out this could also be a problem and could explain why it goes away in turns. hope this sheads some light

Like a wheel bearing?

does this sound like anything else you can compare it to, trannies make all sorts of noises...

When you coast and then accelerate, is there a clunk/snap noise in the same area? If there is you may need inner CV joints.
