Actually adding a new hard drive will increase the capacity of your computer but not memory.

The best thing to do is to figure out what type of Ram your motherboard can support and then upgrade to the next highest capacity like from 128mb to 256mb and from 256mb to 512mb and from 512 to 1024 (1gb)

To find out what type of Ram your hard drive supports, the best thing to do is to go to the manufacturers site of the computer and input your computer model number,

Then once you find that look for the Ram modules that are compatible with your pc.

Open your computer, take out your memory, check the if it is ddr or sdram, check the speed, buy more memory, be sure you have the same speed, very important.
