What would it be called? I'm looking for a 'backwards dictionary' to simplify any phrase that I know would have one word to represent it. In other words, I'd be able to use the word instead of its definition in a sentence.

seriously, i don't think that anyone read your question.

This isn't perfect, but it's what you were looking for and may help you find the word you wanted.

If it doesn't work out, try typing "reverse dictionary" into google, it might come up with a few others. :)

That's easy. Use a thesaurus. They are used to find words similar to what you are looking for, but they can also be used as a backwards dictionary.

you can go to www.merriam-webster.com. it gives you the meaning of the word you are looking up and even has a thesaurus to help you look for synonyms of the word. another commendable feature is that merriam-webster online also has a feature that will allow you to listen in to the right pronounciation of a word.

It's called a thesaurus; look up a synonym and find another, better, word to use.

You can't find the definition of the word "gullible"? I don't believe it.
