My doctor called this morning to tell me the results from the cervical biopsy indicate abnormal cells. I thought this was good news because she didn't say "cancer", but her tone and demeanor seem to say cancer. Can anyone help me out that's been through this?

Don't worry. Abnormal cells do not mean cancer. These particular cells may leave you at a higher risk for developing cervical cancer when you are older. You need to take care of yourself and have regular checkups.

There are 4 levels of abnormal cells. Level 1 slightly abnormal, level 4--cancer.
Did she say come back in a month or 2 to re-do the test, or do they want to take a biopsy?
I had 1/3 of my cervix removed because I was at a 3 (4 being cancer) 11 years ago. I have had 2 abnormal paps since, but they've managed to go back to normal within 3 months. Don't panic. Tell your doc you need some clarification on what she's trying to tell you. If she can't do that...find a new doc!

I'm a guy so there is clearly no cervical stuff with me....but recently I had a dermatologist refer me to a surgeon to remove what were found to be abnormal cells. I was told they were being removed so that nothing could ever become cancer. They weren't cancerous at all, they were just abnormal and there remained a possibility that a year, 5 years, maybe 20 years something could develop so better to be safe than sorry they were removed, so stay positive. It might just be a precautionary thing.

Abnormal cells are precancerous and must be removed........I was at level 4 abnormal cervical and had to have a conical biopsy done to get rid of them........Been abnormal free for years now, and hope to stay that way...........Take care, and don't worry, just remember that there IS a fix for this.............

sometimes abnormal cells can be cancer or and infection or a number of things have ur gyn do another pap and then see what it says. my drs always do a second one to make sure that they need to go further into investigating the problem don't worry yet, ok? if it is cervical cancer its very easy to treat . go to the link I have posted it should explain it more in detail.http://health.yahoo.com/topic/women/symptoms/article/healthwise/hw27576;_ylt=Al8nrTfIIE9dZvXRBGsgS5mb7M8F
