yes. That's usually how it works. She IS his daughter.

I am not married to my partner, and I gave our daughter his last name. We plan on getting married next year, so this way we will all have the same last name. You could also do the hyphenated thing like the Jolie-Pitt family :)

Wow alot of relpys ... i think you need to do what you feel is right. I gave my son his fathers name when we were not married and i regret it. we were suppose to be getting married and to save the hassle of changing his name i gave him my bfs last name. well with the way things went we never got married and now i have alot of problems proving that he is my son ... especially when crossing the border, they kept me there for 4 hours just to confirm that he was mine... which was good in some ways that you look at it but its like that with everything. Your boyfriend should respect whatever you do and if you get married the baby's name will change anyways with yours but the choice is yours and you have to do what you feel is best for you and your situation.

i was engaged to my ex and we had been together for almost two years when my son was born so my son got his last name... but now that we are no longer togewther i kinda wish he had my last name. but he doesn't look a thing like his father so he may as well have a last name in common. i don't know, it's entirely up to you. :) good luck and congrats!

It depends. I assume you're not married. Why is this? Do you want to get married, but he won't commit to it? If this is the case, NO, do not give your daughter his last name. If neither of you want to get married, and it's a mutual agreement not to, then yes, I think it's fine to give her his last name.

That decision is up to you two. The easiest route is to hyphenate it on the birth certificate. Later on - you can always drop one of the names depending on what happens. This way, you're good if you marry, and good if you split :)

yes that way she will know who he is and later on if you guys split, i really hope not though, to get child support in most cases the child has to have the fathers last name.

yes i think that you should. when my daughter was born me and her father were still together so she got his last name. but we soon broke up and he would not help me to take care of her at all, but since she already had his last name he could not deny her and it made it so much easier when i eventually had to take him to court for child support.

yes you should.I regret not giving my son his fathers last name, even though we weren't together anymore, his father still wanted him to have his last name, but I refused. His name was on the birth certificate though and I did still get child support even though my son had my last name.

If you are not married, NO. It only causes difficulties if you break up. You can always change the last name when you marry.
