Someone told me a nasty story about my enemy, unfortunately it was not true. This person has a reputation for making up stuff- could his alcoholism contribute to this?

Can you be friends with a compulsive liar/fantasist?

It has something to do with their own emotions or psyc. A sister of mine told me a story about one of my friends to turn me against my friend when we were young. I eventually found out before my friendship was ruined and realized later that she did it because she was jealous of my friendship and wanted to ruin it. It was a nasty thing to do. People who do such things must get satisfaction from their evil act. I don't see how alcoholism contributes except if his emotions are causing the lying. Personally I am unable to be friends with compulsive liars/fantasists although I tried to stay friends with my sister and she continued to lie throughout her life (she has passed away now).

They could be a compulsive liar...or maybe the just want attentions and are needy people...I do not like needy people. I do not the alcholism contributed to it all that much, but then again what do I know about a person I have never met.

It seemsthat most of us tell little white lies to even fool ourselves from the truth.
If I knew my friend was a habitual liar, I would stop hangin out with them as much.

Based on your avatar, I am assuming you are a female, and that this male friend "Snootful the Liar" may just be trying to get next to you by talking himself up and belittling others.
