I could tell you where to get one ....but then I would have to kill you! Just Kidding! I live here in Cali too and helped get one for a friend once....it was seriously like doing a drug deal...had to call lots of different people and have people call other people to check me out...and then finally like a week later I was told of a secret location to go to get the ferret! There is a ferrets anonymous club that meets at the Pasadena Humane Society...ironic huh? Maybe try and get in touch with them.

dont do it! first off if they find out that you had an illegal animal, they will kill it, and second they are at least $120 for one, and you need two so they dont get depressed and thats $240. Plus they need a big cage or they will get sick, and the cage I got for mine was $300 and it was used. Then you have to get beds, ferret shampoo( they need special ferret shampoo because of their skin and sweat glands), food, a litter box, Yesterday's News brand litter( only kind that is safe for them), Bioder, Feretone, Furovite, treats, food dishes, water bottles, carriers, and toys. thats at least$150 more for starters, and food, litter, shampoo, Bioder, Ferotone, Furovite, and treats have to be replaced when they are used up. You have to get them descented and fixed(9 out of 10 unfixed ferrets die of cancer, and female ferrets will die if they are not fixed or bred, because they never go out of heat and bleed to death, AND it is illegal to breed ferrets unless you are a licensed breeder) and thats a lot of money depending on the prices around you) plus they need shots. You also need to pay for supplies to ferret proof your house when they are out. Figure in unexpected vet bills, and ferrets probably arent in your budget.

If they are illegal you'll have to drive to the nearest place they are legal in order to buy one. You may be able to buy one online, but I doubt the breeder would ship to some place where they aren't legal.

If you get one, where would you buy food? Where would you take the ferret if it gets sick? Why not just get a bunny or cat? You won't have to worry about them being discovered and killed.

I friend of mine went to Oregon to get her ferrits, she made sure that the local vet could treat them before she did. I think that the best way to get a farret if you think you really need one is to get one out of state. You really can't find them for sale in California, since they are illegal, I think they might be legal in Nevada, that would be a little closer than Oregon for you.

If you arent concerned with the "invasive species" $1000 fine (amoung other things) for getting caught with one then you shouldnt have a problem with the cost of driving across state lines and smuggling one in. At least then you can get one from a reputable pet store and get a vet to check it out before you bring it in. You cant take it to a vet once you get home with it.

They are illegal in California? Wow, that's weird. They aren't illegal here, but why in the world would you want one. Did you know they Stink? Yes they stink bad, not as bad as a skunk, but really, they stink bad. All the time, not just some times, but always. They are pretty easy to house train, but did I tell you...THEY STINK!

Big mistake, ferrets stink. The more you wash them the more the pee on themselves. Cute to see on TV but a nasty mess that often bites and will escape from their cage no matter what you do. Don't do it!
