actually some herbs can be toxic to the liver in high doses or over long periods of time... add that to a mixture of a lot of alcohol... and he's just looking for trouble. of course you can't tell him that because he's not ready to hear it & i'm sure he thinks he knows what he's doing.
i wouldn't take anything he's concocting at home... and as a woman, you dont need saw palmetto (that's an herb for male prostate health-- he obviously doesn't know what he's doing if he wants you to take it.) echinacea is good for the immune system, but onlly for short periods of time- 2 week intervals, it should not be taken for long periods.
The alcoholism... that's obviously another issue... you could go to Al-Anon, you can get good support in learning to live with someone with a problem even if he's not willing to deal with it himself.
Good Luck

He sounds like a crazy controlling drunk. Leave him and it'll be much more helpful than the herbs. There is nothing out there that fixes a damaged liver except stopping the alcohol altogether. He is probably damaging his kidneys with the saw pametto and others as the kidney will do less filtering out on its own and he'll probably get kidney failure or stomach cancer, Don't tell him though because he is brainwashed into believing that 20 herbal concoxions heal.

One should always be careful with herbs as mostly we do not know all what they might contain. Herbs produce toxic things not to be eaten by animals otherwise they should not been here. Others make so many seeds that they survived that way. I do not recommend any to take herbs in the faith that it is good for your body, they can make irreversible damage to you. If you are under the age of about 18 years of age, stay away from alcohol as your liver normally hasn't enzymes enough to break down the alcohol.

He needs to be careful with the herbs because too much of the wrong thing can be bad for him and cause some serious problems. As far as the alcoholism he needs to get help but he has to want to get the help for himself. Tell him to be careful with the herbs. Tell him he needs to consult an Herbal Pharmacist for advice on what herbs he should take. Either that or a Naturopathic Doctor such as myself. Good luck hun.

I highly suggest a Psychologist or something close. Family Counseling. This is not normal. It seems that he is utilizing the cause and effect syndrome to make everything just fine. There is a problems and it must be dealt with. Your body will only use whatever it needs the rest is flush thru the system. If a lawyer will not represent. What makes your sig other self prescribe

if you know enough about herbs to know which ones interact and how they do it, you will be fine. I'm a little worried about him taking 3 A&D capsules a day though. Vitamin A, especially in it's synthetic form can easily be overdosed leading to: Headaches, increased pressure in Head, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea,
Hair loss, flaky, itchy Skin, enlargement of Liver, enlargement of Spleen,
Skin rashes, etc.
