I kind of understand Maya however it is very compliacted and I am fustrated. Would 3D Max be easier or just the same learning curce.
Besides Lynda.com and Gnomon is tehre any great online teaching series for 3d?

It all depends on what your used too. Its personal taste both programs have the capability to do amazing stuff. It depends on how you like your tools arranged and how things are done. I personally like XSI which has a sortcut for evrything. To me it was easier to learn then maya.

I have studied deeply on both programs and I will give you a slightly more comprehensive learning setup. First, learn Autocad completely first, it helps establish a solid design base to draw from. Then learn 3d Max. It is more mechanically-oriented and manually controlled, but it is more common-sense and faster to learn. Then Maya will be quite easy to learn and when you learn the settings, it will automate your processes, quicken your work, and it will look like a pro!
