Those silly little avatars make it look like they are still in diapers or possibly graduated to pullups. Maybe this is a cartoon world.

Because I like to maintain my anonymity. There are a lot of weirdos on this site, asking a lot of hateful questions. I like to tangle with them, and try to get them to think (a waste of time, I know... one can but try). I do not want to suddenly find myself targeted by some of these zealots, in a real personal way. If I had to deal with it 'face to face' I wouldn't. And then there would be no dialogue at all.

This is a new world in here... the old rules don't always apply.

Personally I HATE this silly looking smiley face! I can't get an Avatar because I need to run Classic (MAC) to download one. It always fragments and mixes with System 10 and basically blows up the computer. Even when I try to upload an Image from my Pictures folder it never fails to screw up.
Why can't Yahoo! give us System 10 users the chance to at least have an Avatar!? (I also can't use my 360 picture because I'm not old enough to have an account!) I'm actually pretty good-looking and would give anything to have my picture up on here!
But I must say; it sure would be nice to have a live-action video stream hooked up to a web cam that would show you typing away at your computer while you answer questions! :)

I used a cartoon avatar when I first started for many different reasons. One of them was I didn't want anyone to know what I looked like. I wanted to be anonymous to some degree. After getting more comfortable being on Q & A I didn't care if people knew what I looked like anymore.

it's kind of a cartoon world. Seeing some of the mindsets of the people here. (no implied insults meant. Don't mean you) Posting their picks would be too much like owning their actions. An example of the principle is the "hit and run" type actions of some who launch a tirade, then block their "victim" so a not to have to deal with a response. I've noticed that most like that have little or no information and no contact allowances in their profiles.

Seems to me that putting one's photo, and/or detailed profile info is saying "I've got the moxie to be me."

I guess you are living in the same compound as the other people who asked this same question and phrased it in the same peculiar way - what exactly is so 'brave' about posting your photo, compared to not posting your photo?
Do you see yourself as some kind of heroic warrior for posting your photo?

Read the community guidelines. Don't post anything personal. If you choose to break the guidlines thats your choice.

Personally, I've been bannished to Canada in the witness protection program. I'd rather stick with an avatar than get whacked by the mob.

I guess shyness, I have a blog and I was reluctant to put my picture until I realized that a blog without picture would not look like a real person is writting it. I'm an Industrial Engineer, I invented "heat retentive plates" and my blog is :http://www.hotsmart.blogspot.com.
(nobody reads it) . It is about a ceramic plate that you preheat for just one minute and stays hot for 1/2 hour (the rim remains cool for easy handling).

You, my sir, are operating under a logical fallacy. Should you find yourself with the opportunity to study rhetoric, I suggest you do so.

What you are really "asking" is, "Ain't I just the bravest, most courageous fella alive?"

You aren't asking about other people at all.

The logical fallacy that you are employing is "begging the question."

In logic, begging the question is the term for a type of fallacy occurring in deductive reasoning in which the proposition to be proved is assumed implicitly or explicitly in one of the premises.

"Only a brave person puts his photo on Yahoo! Answers. The fact that I am brave is proof of this." Such an argument is fallacious, because it relies upon its own proposition—in this case, "I am brave"—in order to support its central premise. Essentially, the argument assumes that its central point is already proven, and uses this in support of itself.

because most of them are internet warriors and also I am sure they get suspended a lot and like to use the avatars and recreate new accounts. Many come on here pretending to be professionals that they are not. OR they don't know how to use it through the yahoo 360 account (which is a lot like myspace). That was why it took me awhile to put mine up.
