Spybot Search and Destroy is the best spyware detector available for free. It's best to get it at the official site, http://safer-networking.org
Don't bother with any of the other ones. The only other trustable ones are Microsoft's Defender thing, and Lavasoft's Adaware, and both can't even hold a candle to Spybot S&D. Plus, Adaware is crippleware, it's only good once you buy the full version, and even then it's only about as good as Spybot S&D

For free spyware download, you may want to try SPYBOT and back it up with Microsoft's WINDOWS DEFENDER (they both scan, detect and remove spywares). You should also download Spywareblaster to make sure that it will prevent the installation of spyware and other potential unwanted software.
However, if you decided to invest for a better anti-spyware program and willing to pay some money, I will suggest you go for Spy Sweeper. They get good reviews and I am also using that on my laptop. It's been very effective so far. You can also check this website for spyware reviews.

I hope this helps

hi, spybot is good, but not the best.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

All spyware is free :O). But you can get anti-spyware for free from Lavasoft, called AdAware Personal Edition SE. Google it.

Run more than one, Spybot + AdAware is a great combination. Don't forget to also run (if you're only using freeware) the AVG antivirus and zonealarm firewall, and make sure you have all your windows updates and hotfixes installed.

You should have Windows Defender. It is free from Microsoft and watches your system prevents programs from taking over your home page etc.
Go here to read about and get it - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...
Two other free programs you should get & run about once a week are Spybot and Adaware. They also are free and you can get them both here - http://www.download.com/
Between those three you are doing a pretty good job of protecting your system.
