They showed some thing on VH1 about reality shows being helped out and storylines being provoked. So basically when they go in the diary room, producers ask suggestive questions and put things in their heads. Also some of the clips might be fudged, such as showing people listening in to conversations, when actually the weren't there at the time. Or if you hear voice overs and don't see the person on the screen, it could be added in from something they previously said. They mix up the tapes to make it look as if something happened that didn't.

cinnamon_girl is almost 100% right. She is right on with everything except I believe that they are in the diary room alone with a camera, or at least not with another human in front of them. However some of the things they say do sound like answers to very specific questions so maybe there is a monitor that pops questions up. Bu I don't believe that the questions contain anything that could allow the player to figure something out that they normally would not know.

I don't think it's fake but it isn't totally real either. Reality TV producers often manipulate the people and events to get better ratings.
