Yes, it goes away. It's an effect from chlorine.

Totally normal. Pools with too much chlorine can cause blurred vision and painful burning eyes. I remember being a kid and swimming so much that my eyes would burn so badly I could hardly open them. Many public pools that have heavy use, or indoor pools, have high chlorine levels (as well as other chemicals.) Some eye drops can help flush out the chemicals, and if your kids will be doing a lot of swimming, it might be good to invest in some goggles.

No, well, sort of. The problem lies in the pool they wre swimming in. Way too much chlorine in the water. I had this experience when I was younger. The first clue was that the water was cloudy. It burned my eyes as soon as I opened them under water. I spent too much time in that pool and that resulted in severe burning later that night as well as the severly blurred vision. My sister even tried to flush my eyes with luke warm water to wash out the chlorine. That only made my eyes to hurt even more. My suggestion is to buy the children goggles for future swims. You should also contact the person that takes care of the pool. If it is a public pool, they are required to test the level of chlorine as well as the ph balance on a daily basis. A private pool, its at the owners descretion.
Also, if the water is cloudy when you look at it, dont swim in it. Plus, when public pools put the balancing chemicals in the water, they cannot allow people to swim for at least 20 to 30 mins. Hope this helped. Oh, by the way, even too much chlorine in a pool can also cause burning of the skin when exposed for prolonged periods.

Erm, it soundz 2 me like an eye infection. Steam...thatz weird. I think thatz definitely dodgy. You should rinse your eyes with cool water A LOT ( I've HEARD that cool water with dissolved salt also works. a glass of water and a teaspoon salt, mixed--i have not tried this personally) , then try using eyedrops. Its sounds like an infection. If eye were you (haha) I would see an opthamologist or and optomotrist if it continues for another day or two.

I would watch their eyes and make sure they are not overly read and inflammed.
You need to watch out for bacterial infections that thrive in the swimming pool.
If it persists after they wake up in the morning, take the in to the doctor to get checked out and to get some eyedrops.
