When the water level drops in my fish tank I can see a few very tiny nats on the tank above the water line. Does anyone know what they are, why they are there, how to get rid of them, are they dangerous to the health of my fish etc? I have mostly Tetras and they are pretty old (not new fish that I just brought home). Any serious info is appreciated.

Means that you are feeding too much and the insects are living off the extra. The main problem will be that the aquarium water will become toxic from the uneaten food. Reduce the amount of food every day and the gnats will starve themselves out.

If you mean gnats then they are probably introduced in live food such as bloodworm or they have flown in and laid eggs in the water, they could also have been introduced with plants. If your fish look healthy and your water quality is OK then they are not too much of a problem and could provide some food for your fish.

Do you mean gnats?

They aren't hurting anything and your fish may enjoy eating a few.

Need to make sure your pump stays running and the water doesnt get stagnant. That should do it. if it is running I dont know. Mine has never done it.

Get a parasite killer, like ick killer. Also turn the heat up to about 85 degrees and that should take care of them.

Consider it free live food.
