I am a retired Special Forces NCO. I am considering going back overseas as a "High Risk" security contractor. My kids are very angry. Even my oldest son is unhappy and he is an active duty soldier currently in Special Forces training. I figured he would understand. As younger people what do you think?

Ignore the gung ho idiots here that tell you to go for it, but wouldn't have the guts to put their own lives at risk. It would kill me and my mother, if my father was thinking of doing what you want to do. Please, for the sake of your kids..don't go. I'm sure you can find rewarding stuff to do in your local area..if you are searching for something meaningful to do. Your kids love you very much and it would devastate them if they were to lose you.

Their anger is based on fear of losing their dad. If you go and ignore their feelings..they will constantly be on pins and needles wondering if you're all right. Now that you are retired, give your kids the time you couldn't give to them when you were working.

Do what you feel your calling is. Are you still a warrior. Do have the mental toughness. Do you have the drive to take part in bringing all those who are aimed at brining America to it's knees to justice (AKA Dead or Alive). Do you want to help those who are defending our country. Or do you want to stay home? I wish I knew more about the length of the tour. Then I might be able to give you a straight answer. Right Now the US needs good qualified help.

I;m not young, but you need to stay home and raise your family and wait for a real war, not htis crazy BS...maybe if you stay your kids might learn that blowing sH$* up is not the answer and find a way to live in peace

If they are angry, they are not fully aware of what is actually going on in the world today..Of course they are fearful of you going but, have to be made to realize there are very important things to take care of, while there is still time.

just sit and talk with them....tell them how important is that and also listen when they are talking about their feelings and expectations.....ask what makes them angry....you know just talk.
as a young guy it sounds important to me when my father talks about his concerns; because it shows how important our friendship is.Iam sure your son feels the same too. listen to your family but don't let anybody to make any decision for you.only you can make a decision about that.I believe we all are living to make some decisions and it is just our right decisions that make our life better and better. good luck.

since you are retired and have kids still at home --- I'd strongly suggest that you spend your time with them.... evidently they need for "dad" to be home as long as possible....
