I am part Lithuianian, Irish, Dutch and French Canadian. Are my children white? They are 50 % me and 50% El salvadorian(Central American Country). Why do I only have a choice of white or caucasion as Ethnic background? Are my ethnic roots not important? Worse yet they ask me my race. As long as I have known I have been a part of the Human race. What are your thoughts.

Genetics are making those old label out of date. People that typically look white ( skin color and facial features ) are discovering that over half of their genetic makeup comes from West Africa or Asia. While American Black are discovering 35% of their genetic makeup consist of genes from Western Europe.

The fact is that we are all part of the human family, inter connected and inter related in more ways than we could possibly considered.

On my behalf, please welcome your children to the human race!

I hope this helps.

My world book encyclopedia defines caucasian as;

a member of the so-called-white race, including the people of Europe, Southwest Asia, Northern Africa....etc.....

Notice it lists "so-called-white race". That doesn't mean that all are ABSOLUTELY PALE AS A GHOST white.

It seems to me this is a generality.

But according to that definition you are Caucasian. All of Lithuianian, Irish, Dutch and French Canadian fit that description.

Now depending on your wifes ancestry your children could be classified as either caucasian or hispanic. That is if your wife is native south american. If her parents were caucasians living in south america then she too is caucasian.

There should be another box on forms that states "mixed" or maybe "blended"

You don't have to answer those questions if you don't want to.
I'm white/caucasion but I don't like them either

For the record you are white based on your deescription.
Your offsping are 50% as you stated.

I wouldn't spend alot of time worrying about it tho-

Good Question. I am so sick of politically correct terms and why does it even matter what color anyone is. We all have bones, blood, flesh and feelings. Urgh!!! it is so annoying.
