"Yes, Freud formulated this hypothesis in the early 1900's. Since he has already set to mood and tone for any discussion of our needs. Please refer to him in the sources list along with Jung."
Beyond the Pleasure Principle (first published in German in 1920 as Jenseits des Lustprinzips) is an essay by Sigmund Freud. It marked a turning point and a major modification of his previous theoretical approach. Before this essay, Freud was understood to have placed the sexual instinct, Eros, or the libido, centre stage, in explaining the forces which drive us to act. In 1920, going "beyond" the simple pleasure principle, Freud developed his theory of drives, by adding Thanatos, also known as the death instinct.

The main importance of the essay resides in the striking picture of human being, struggling between two opposing instincts or drives: Eros working for creativity, harmony, sexual connection, reproduction, and self-preservation; Thanatos for destruction, repetition, aggression, compulsion, and self-destruction.

I would say No. All human interaction is based on a need to be part of society. If I put all my needs first why do I need human interaction especially in this day and age. Internet, computers, and cell phone.

The touch of parent quites a baby not because he needs the touch but because he senses he is a part of something that someone else can help him

When a child beams with pride because he is told he did a good job. That joy is not because of what he did or needed but because someone else thought it was worthy.

When we feel good after doing charity it is because we did it selflessly. If we did it for our own reasons we would not feel good.

I would probably say yes. Because like for many ppl that go to coffee shops or fast food places. The human interaction is between the customer paying and the employee giving them food. Also like in a bar many ppl of the opposite sex would only approach you to either get your number or sleep with you. I'm not real sure if anyone has ever interacted with someone else and not wanted something for themselves in return. Unless they bump into you and then there is nothing gained or lost on either person's part.

I would say...yes this is usually the case. People are very egocentric, which means they are all about themselves, and everyone else comes in second. I know there will be a lot of people disagreeing with that concept, but then there is the old saying "I think thou protests a bit too much." Think about just about any conversation you start, and try to remember why you decided to start it. Usually it is because you want to fulfill some personal agenda, even if it seems as though the entire conversation is about the other person, why did you start it with them, probably to have some sort of recognition with that person, that is fairly selfish really. So I would agree with the statement you just made.

Everything that we do in life is to meet our needs, whatever they are. We either get them met in a healthy or unhealthy way. The key is to be self-caring about yourself , not selfish --at the expense of depriving someone else of what they need.
Some basic needs are love, acceptance, and safety there is certainly nothing wrong with that.

We are all selfish by nature. The trick is to practice being selfless. Only then can we be in- tune to the needs of others. It is not easy, but it something that we all need to do.
