For graphic design, a desktop would be easier...A real monitor will always have a better quality image. I recommend a good flat panel screen, atleast 17''. Either way, You WILL need a real wireless optical mouse. A Wacom Tablet and pen is a very useful and fun tool aswell.
An apple computer is traditionally popular amongst graphic designers, but these days a cheaper PC can easily handle the load. If you are going to be using mostly Adobe, Adobe apps work the same for both Windows and MacOS.
And, stick within your budget. For graphic design you really do not need the same processor power that's needed for 3D gaming. But RAM will make design smoother. You will want probably atleast a gig of RAM...which is standard these days.

Desktops are generally more powerful machines. They can hold more RAM, and have better graphic cards and larger Hard Drives. Plus, you can put any size monitor on them (and dual monitors are even better). Downside is that desktops aren't all that portable.
Laptops are portable. This means you can work just about anywhere. The LCD screens are nice, but there is a color shift you have to compensate for.
As for Mac vs. PC, these days it doesn't really matter. If you can afford the Mac, go for it. If you have to go a cheaper route, you can get a PC just as powerful for less. Software is available on both platforms. If you're going to be doing Photoshop and Illustrator, get a wacom tablet (or a Cinteq monitor if you can afford it).

NICE! Coming from someone who has only began to delve into the world of Adobe Photoshop CS4 and other CS4 products, that is a job well done! Also, coming from an advertising perspective, I would definitely want to find out more about the airline company and I don't even care about airline companies. This is good work, I would love to see your other work and if you have any heavily detailed material. @ ...nya- You are right, but you also have to keep in mind that this is an advertisement for a airpline company, a place of business. I think that if she had a "flowy" type, then that would be too much. Maybe people might view it as too girly or something, you know? Just my opinion.

A good one. Don't cheap out at Walmart. A 800-100 dollar Dell desktop should be fine. or 1200-1500 for a laptop.

Desktop. They're more powerful so you won't get any cursor lag when you're using big brushes or complex filters in photoshop, and you'll find that a quality desktop monitor will give you truer color than the attached screens of most if not all lappies.

are you sure you are one?
or are you in question?
do you speak english... I hope the answer is no, or else you need some work on the language to sound professional.
You need a computer with at least 1 gig of RAM. Photo cards installed. Dual processors. Hyperthreading, Graphics Media Accelerator. If you buy it at a store, tell them what you will be using it for.
WHAT you are going to DO with the computer is critical info.

I'd suggest a Macintosh laptop. Macs are stronger in the graphics department and a laptop will give you portability to take it to classes, etc.
