It is a very good question and I am very sorry to see so many strange, arrogant, and ridiculous answears. Lets start with the fact that there are a lot of american students overseas and we do not seem to think about that. I, as a foreign student chose USA because it was far cheaper than Europe and because USA has some of the best schools in the world. I chose USA because there is no corruption in the school system as it is in my home country. I chose USA because I came to like the people in here. Is there anything WRONG about that ?! Americans are famous for their openmindness and I do not see many of it in this thread. And one more thing most of the International Students pay full tuition and fees while only american students have various financial aid. I am not jelous but YOU should no be hating on international students. I am sure most of you never even talked to one. Try to know one, find out something new, get a friend we are all human after all!

You already know the answer to this one...

The United States really is the country that offers the best opportunity. It's one of those places that rewards everyone with good skills and work ethic, not just those people who are members of the party, or are somebody's cousin.

Because of that open climate, our universities are best in the world at almost every subject. Good ideas grow without predjudice, and are forged by working through disagreements, which, again, are tolerated, rather than oppressed.

An acquaintance of mine teaches in China, where he says they have "the world's smartest trees". He says that because the normal way to study is to go to a park and read "The Book" out loud. There are no discussions, no compare and contrast, no "this is what somebody else thinks". It's all "memorize this book."

Not everybody says that. And it's kind of like how everybody seems to think McDonalds is gross. How come people still go there? I guess... I don't really know. But yeah, maybe the people who aren't trying to get into our schools are saying stuff, and the students really like the US. Who knows?

Who are "the people" you mean? If all of the foreign students want to go to our schools who are the people going to oh, let's say Oxford right now?

You are an American, you have the right to speak your mind but also an obligation to think before you do it... don't mean that as an insult, just please, put a little thought into it, okay?

Because they know the US is a great place, if immigration restrictions were eliminated, hundreds of millions of people would move here.

I have traveled all over the world, most of the people who dislike America live here.

because some of the same people who strive everyday to stay alive and support their families really need a free opportunity/second chance to start over and give their children what the parents couldn't have. and that's the American dream.
