Not necessarily. The term efface refers to the cervix shortening, not opening up. When you become pregnant the cervix becomes very long. As you get towards the end of your pregnancy your cervix shortens and becomes soft. So unless you have also started to dilate then you may still have your plug.

What is effacement?
Effacement is the process by which the cervix prepares for delivery. After the baby has engaged in the pelvis, it gradually drops closer to the cervix; the cervix gradually softens, shortens and becomes thinner. You may hear phrases like "ripens," or "cervical thinning" which refer to effacement.
How is effacement measured?
Effacement is measured in percentages. For example, your doctor or midwife may tell you that you are effaced 50%, which means you are half way to being completely effaced. When you are 100% effaced or completely effaced, your cervix is paper-thin and labor is right around the corner.
How will I know if and when I am effaced?
In your final weeks of pregnancy your caregivers will routinely check for effacement, and as soon as you arrive at the hospital, you will be checked for effacement. If you are a first time mom, your cervix will efface before it dilates. If you are a second time mom, your cervix will dilate before effacement.

Nope. I lost my mucous plug about 2 weeks after finding out I was 100% effaced and then still didn't go into labor for another week. You lose your mucous plug when your cervix dilates enough that the ball of mucous which has been plugging your cervix up during pregnancy passes through and out. If you are not dilated yet, you probably have not lost it. Whether you have or not, your body will go into labor when it is ready.
Hang in there!

Yes, but it also does not mean you will go into labor right away. When I was pregnant, I was 50% effaced at 20 weeks. And, then put on bedrest. By 30 weeks, I was almost 100% effaced. My sons were born at 38 weeks.

Not necessarily. 3 days before my son was born I was 80% effaced and 2cm dilated and still hadn't lost my mucous plug. My friend swore that I would know I was in labor when I lost my plug, well my water broke and 9 hrs later I had my son and still never saw a mucous plug!

I would think so. Usually, you dialate and that's when you lose your plug. If you are 100% effaced I bet you are beginning to dialate. Are you due this week?

When you are effaced 100% that means you are ready to go into labor, and they should break your water if it already has not happened. Good luck.

once you lose your mucus plug, it means that your cervix is finally open and able to dilate. as quickly as you lose the plug, you may dilate to a million to 2 centimenters for each week or couple of months earlier going to hard artwork or you may circulate into hard artwork top away. in case you're close on your due date, the main suitable ingredient to do is verify the rest room earlier you flush. in case you spot a jelly like substance this is generally sparkling with a sprint of blood, this is the mucus plug.
