I agree completley. Maybe not so much lies, but an incomplete picture. The media feed us what they want and we lap it up. What do we become? A product of state suggestion. All open to the same methods of manipulation.
It is so important that people use resources such as the internet to find a nutritious diet for the mind, and that we retain not only our ability, but the will to think for ourselves on a mass level.
The saddest thing about all this is that we are in a world war right now. It may be economic, and it may be behind the scenes, but the casualties are real. It's what keeps food in our supermarkets, and petrol in our cars. Exploitation.
The world is a critically overcrowded place. There simply isn't enough energy to keep all 6 billion of us living the way even a relatively modest westerner lives. Fact.
So our governments do what they do to keep the poor poor, and us fat and rich, and they keep stocking up on arms, because they know that when water replaces oil as our main sparse and privatised commodity, it won't just be terrorist groups rising up. It's gonna be continents.

So long as we are trapped ever more in our capitalist obsessed lives we devote little time to political debate other that that which affects our own income or quality of life.
Our governments frequently lie in order to strengthen domestic political support regarding that which may be unpalatable to the general public.
We do have a choice and ignorance is no excuse, but I feel a modern culture should find time to reflect on political and historical debate as people did more frequently in the past.
In terms of telling the truth, political self interest is the paramount consideration.
British people cannot cope with the guilt of knowing that they backed a pre-emptive invasion of a country that was of no threat to us, or perhaps we don't care simply choosing what we want to believe.
American Taxpayers (if informed) are unlikely to want to continue financial support of a government in the middle east which continues with a policy of apartheid ,torture and murder against the Indigenous Palestinian population., and which continues to receive billions of US tax dollars in order to increase its lead in terms of Nuclear, chemical and biological weapons production.
My own guess is that the internet will take some of the lead from traditional media in informing our populations of events.
It is already happening in China as the government attempts to stop any form of dissent. Our own information revolution could provide a platform for infomed awareness of events and current affairs.
I think that any hope for the future must be in the hands of our young people and I hope that they will learn to use the internet wisely and not waste time.

Sure, I'm with you, all of this rhetoric seems to be pointed in the right sort of direction. Still, good luck with demanding answers, those guys are slick and are almost certain to fob you off, or shut you down.
'it is we the voters who should be heard and feared'
That'd take some real democracy in action- and the more active the people are, the more repressive the state can get.... hm, of course, the 'war of terror' atmosphere of the moment is perfect for shutting down dissent already.
Still, do your best. Let me know if you get anything going x.

My response to conspiracy theories like yours is simple. Three people can't keep a secret forever and thousands of people can't keep a secret for minute.
Just stop and think of the magnitude of such a hoax. Think of the amount of people, the length of time and the cost of such a secret master plan to fake all these terrorist acts. The government you accuse of being capable caring out such a hoax can't even plant fake WMD in Iraq to justify their actions but they can fake 9-11?
Impossible!!

its reasonable to suggest since it has been done before with nazi's arguably using propaganda to good effect but i feel awkward saying this because Hitler was a dictator and we are a democracy. I dont think that our government is without its flaws but i dont think there is any kind of governing dynamic (on a national level) on the planet that is perfect and unless we want a state of anarchy we have to try and make better what we got.

I do not know what your problem is in addition to having a psychotic outlook on the world. The government could not manipulate the media enough to accomplish what you suggest. I guess it will take a terrorist attack that has an effect on You to get you to recognize what is going on. To bad for the rest of the world that You are not alone in your psychotic fantasies.

You are correct in asking these questions. After all, the USA is supposed to be a Republic. In a Republic, the government comes second to the citizen. Recite the Pledge of Allegiance and you'll see, we have been betrayed.

yes i agree with ur line of thinking .... its hard to swallow that 40,000+ iraqi civilians needed to die so that i could be safe here in my little town ... they can demonize whoever is against their policy now .... all they got to do is say these couple of guys "affiliated with alquaida" are terrorists and tried to blow up some planes ..... all of a sudden everybody thinks its a good idea to stay in iraq and hunt these illusive terrorists some more ... its all a big crock ... thats my opinion ... theres alot of big plans our govt wants to fulfill ... some are legitamate concerns for our future and some are for greed and power ....NONE have anything to do with terrorism ... i think we are perfectly capable of protecting ourselves without giving up rights or invading other countries ... to believe otherwise is to trust a govts explanation that we must kill thousands to protect ourselves .... nonsense.
