Not particularly bothered that you can't take drinks on board, I usually take a bottle of water when flying but considering the airlines are stocking up with additional refreshments and handing out bottled water then I can't see it's much of a problem.
Currently there are very strict rules here in the UK and you can't take anything at all on the plane apart from the bare essentials which have to be carried in a transparent plastic bag (medication, passport, money, unpacked sanitary towels, loose tissues etc, you can't carry anything in your pockets or on your person and can't even take a book to read). Also, every passenger is being hand searched and even the shoes are being x-rayed.
The rules are only temporary and the latest government statement (about 6 hours ago) was that they hope to relax the restrictions within a week.
The terrorists had been under surveillance for the last 9 to 12 months whilst the police and intelligence agencies gathered information. The recent arrests in Pakistan coupled with unspecified intelligence from the UK led authorities to beieve that the first wave of attacks was imminent - hence the raids and arrests.
There's conflicting reports at the moment suggesting between 5 and 12 planes would have been destroyed in either 1 or 3 waves anywhere within the next week to the next few months. Some reports suggest the planes would have been blown up over US cities in order to cause more loss of life, other are suggesting they would have been blown up over the Atlantic to make recovery of bodies and evidence more difficult.
One of the problems is the fact that liquid explosives can't be detected using normal methods and a demonstration on the BBC earlier showed (without giving specific details) how easy it is to make a sizeable explosive using relatively easy to obtain ingredients that wouldn't be detected by conventional security methods.
I guess we'll know more in the next few hours and days.

1. No. You can still get a coke from the stewardess.
2. No. They did not detect it. It is not easy to detect liquid explosives. British Intelligence were tipped off by Pakistani authorities.

Not at all upset! Who knows what those actions could have prevented. ( by the airport security )
Even though it would cost me a lot of money, I would have gladly just thrown away my carry on bags, of course that's where I always pack everything they described. And I know some people were upset, but it just MAY have prevented a HUGE catastrophic event !
As for how they found out, Pakistan knew of it ( they're saying they were probably Al Qaida members ) and informed the people of Great Britain.
YEA FOR THE BRITAIN'S !!!!! AND THE PAKISTANIS FOR THE TIP OFF !!!!

No, not upset with the rule, I think it is necessary and is meant to protect lives. I like rules, they are there for a reason.
I havent heard the full story on how they detected that, but we shall find out real soon.

reminds me of the grimy previous guy who boarded the Hooters Air flight wearing a trenchcoat. The flight attendant stated, "i favor to work out your cost tag, sir," and he without delay flashed her. with out lacking a beat, she stated, "No, I stated your cost tag, no longer your STUB."
