ok so im getting ready for school this morning, i turn on the news and i hear about a terrorist attack that was planned. then i hear that the US government raised the terrorist alert to high. so part of my question is; what is the government going to gain out of elevating the alert? all they are doing is scaring the citizens, they arent stopping anyone from attacking. all that alert really tells me is "hey! we might be attacked once again! so be afraid!" i also dont think that making people throw away their water bottles, perfume, cologne, and things like that before they board a plane is really going to help. so what's your point of view about this?

Your on the right track, the next question you should ask yourself in all this who is really to gain? I found this bit of news interesting on the subject.

WorldNetDaily -

"Other sources within the bureau and the Central Intelligence Agency said the administration is pressuring intelligence agencies to develop "something, anything" to support an array of non-specific terrorism alerts issued by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security…CHB reported that FBI and CIA sources said a recent White House memo listing the war on terrorism as a definitive political advantage and fund-raising tool is just one of many documents discussing how to best utilize the terrorist threat.”

The alerts are more for law enforcement. They have certain things they do at different levels, so yes these alerts may very well stop a terrorist attack. I don't think most people are scared by these alerts. Everyone I know went about their regular life today just as always.

It is directly related to gas/oil... the alaskan pipeline is corrupt and they will be raising gas prices... If everyone was planning on doing more flying to avoid high fuel costs, then what is the most effective way to keep that from happening?

You do the math...

Besides, the easiest way to foil a terrorist plan would simply be to expose it to the mass media, their surveilance is far more intelligent and organized than the administration...

We are basically experiencing Enron Part 2...

Votes my friend, it would appear that the Bush administration is doing something. I do hope that the American people see though it and vote democrat in the fall election and end this kind of tyranny.

what their trying to do is spread the propaganda...scare people...because its easier to manipulate people whne they're scared.... and also i dont think that people should throw all their belongings...like i mean water and like make up...and liquid basically... cause its like.. all those companies are gonna make so much money... for example 5 million people threw away their toothpaste....5 million people will go out there and buy the toothpaste...cause they need it...and you know what kinda money that is...

They're banning liquids because they were going to use liquid bombs for the attacks this morning!

And no, I have no idea why they have a stupid alert...

Yes---it may help us to be more aware and vigilant. I raised my own terror alert to "Plaid". This means that I can't talk to strangers or pick up hitchikers.

The big question: would you rather be a little nervous about a potential attack--or be completely blindsided again when one really happens??
