It's not easy. First, you have to admit to yourself that you are jealous. Then you have to figure out why; are you angry, sad, afraid, what is fueling your jealousy. Examine what's behind your jealousy, then comes the really hard part - take responsibility! It's easy to say "My girlfriend makes me jealous when she flirts with other people", but that's not true. The truth is a whole lot harder "My fear of losing my girlfriend is what makes me jealous when she flirts". It's neccessary to do this because so long as you blame somone else, you feel helpless to change your feelings. Once you acknowledge that your feelings belong to you and no one else, you can work on changing them. The girlfriend is just an example, this works for any type of jealousy. Good luck.

You can get rid of it by finding something to get your mind off of it. If you are speaking about someone with a girl that you like, find another girl. Or just in general, if you are speaking about someone having something that you like that you can't have, then just find something that makes you happy. Whatever makes you happy should do the trick. If it still doesn't go away it's probably something deeper than just jealousy.

You don't just "get rid" of it. You have to work through it by accepting and being happy for whoever or whatever you are jealous of. Even in doing this you can sometimes fail and must simply deal with the entrapment of the emotion--that's what I do.

Let go of your EGO.
Religion teaches us to become more charitable when we have jealousy <1>. So, if you're jealous of a rich man, then you need to give more money to the poor ... if you're jealous of your best friend getting the perfect woman ... you need to give your best friend GOOD advice and attention when he needs your help. Basically, start giving slow, then give till it hurts, then you've totally surrendered to it and it really starts to mean nothing.

Trust the other person, tell the other person that what they are doing is making you feel a certain way and if they dont help change that then you midaswell do what going to happen and dump them.

develop a full , complete , and thorough understanding of the phrase "all is one , here , and now"... believe that you already are what you are jealous of , and there will be no jealousy. understand that you already are what you desire , and there will be no sense of lacking , or any desire at all.
