A male clasps onto a female until she releases her eggs for him to fertilize. Apparently in some species this can last for weeks. Why is it advantageous for males to behave this way? Why should females permit males to clasp them for so long?

I bet you are talking about the male frog that raises his tadpoles on his back. I forgot the name of the frog but saw it on animal planet channel. Getting the tadpoles under his skin takes awhile and looks like a horror movie.

The male does this to prevent other males from mating with his girl.
