I am planning a trip in two weeks and planning to buy a gift bottle of liquor. I wonder if I can take this on the plane?

Only in your luggage that goes under the plane no carry on liquids without a prescription period.

No. You'll have to pack it in your luggage that will be stowed in the planes cargo hold. It doesn't matter that the seal won't have been broken.

What I wonder is what the airlines are going to do about the increase in thefts from suitcases that is bound to happen. We had some brand new DVDs stolen when we flew to Texas in 2004 and the airline said there was nothing they could do about it. Imagine all the goodies those TSA workers can get their hands on now.

Not if you are flying out of GB or USA.
No liquids on carry on baggage! Liquor or otherwise. Pack it in your checked bags.

Given the events of this morning, you are gonna have to stow that in your checked bags at the very least.
