Oh good, another socialist who's never taken an economics course. This is very simple, nothing is free. Someone in Canada is paying for that with increased taxes. I would much rather pay for my own medical care then have my taxes raised to pay for yours. If you can't take care of yourself that's your problem not mine!

The capitalist nature of our medical system allows it to be the best medical treatment you can receive in the world. I do think there should be some basic level of coverage, but past that, you have to pay for more specific treatments. If there were no financial incentive for organizations to fund research in better treatments, no better treatments would be used or discovered.

If the government will only pay for a cheap form of cancer treatment, and since everyone has to get the same medical care, all better treatments will no longer be offered.

What needs to happen is medical malpractice lawsuits have to be capped or made illegal and then doctors and hospitals won't have to pay ridiculously high medical malpractice premiums and the cost of health care will decrease a good amount just from that. Also... insurance companies have ruined it... but if you think insurance companies are bad, imagine what the federal government would do the medicine if they got their hands on it!

There are a few little problems with Canada's system. That's why we get so many of their people who are willing to pay to have surgery in US hospitals. We also train a lot of their specialists. Our medical system has major problems and inequalities. But we are going to have to fix it not trade it in on someone eases system. There is good and bad in most systems of medical care. We just need to fix our government so that we can work on other problems without being prevented by power holders who are vested in the existing system.

For starters, with all the "sue-happy" people in this country looking for a fast buck, doctors, nurses, etc. NEED malpractice insurance. That drives up the costs. (Ask John 'ambulance chaser' Edwards where all his money came from.)

Next, how's the quality of that care? Do you have to wait in line for long?

We are the greatest country in the world for a reason. It's called capitalism and it breeds competition and drive to do better, offer better services and all of that takes research...which takes money.

Sorry, I don't want to pay more taxes for "free" health care.

And even if I did. I still wouldn't want my taxes going to fund the health care bill to some stoner getting rehab. I'll take care of me, thank you.

You don't speak for me in saying "most americans see Canada as..."

Instead of jumping up on the soap box to speak for others, why not learn to spell?
