I am a male, 14 years old, 123 lbs, going to 9th grade and i want to join the basketball team. My speed is pretty good right now. I am the second fastest in my entire school and my school is from 7-12 grade. I am only 5"4' so i am not very tall. I cannot dunk on a ten foot hoop either. The maximum size hoop i can dunk on is 8 feet. Does anyone know how i can increase my hops within a month because i am going to join basketball next month and i am also going to join varsity track so that might help for my high jump. Any suggestions? Also my shot is alright but everyone makes fun of the way i shoot. Thats because i hold the ball in 2 hands but release with only 1. The other hand stays in place for balance but my shot is still pretty good. Any suggestions to make it better? Also i am not that great with my lay ups because i usually overpower them. I need to work on my offense a little as well. If anyone can help id greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Practice practice Practice. Give it ur all. do miken drills(one foot layup on one side then grab ball and do the other side) for ur layups, jump for a minute at a spot on the wall, do stairs, reconfigure ur shot, do at least 20 layups for warm up, along with 20 free throws. Make sure u get into a routine. Do one on one with others. Dont just shoot around. Become a gym rat. U dont join a bball team. U try out and then ur on the team. Become a great defender, especialy with ur speed. keep hoopin...!!!

yea i know im a girl but i may be able to help. I share the same problem with you and i shoot the same way. I also juggle cheerleading with basketball. No im not telling you to become a cheerleader. What you need to do it for everyday jump up and down as you would in conditioning. Find a wall and mark a spot on it that you want to touch. Then jump up and down trying to touch a goal spot for the day. At the end of the day mark the spot you are at and try to overcome it on the next day. Its called aggression. Use it. If you hurt at the end of the day then it means your doing something right!

Basketball is all about basics. Alot of people can score the rock, but the key for u is to learn to dribble, pass, and play tuff d-fense. For hops get a box that u can jump on and do that. It's called the box drill. Basically play hard on defense. And just shoot in the paint. Don't worry about long range.

Well if you feel comfortable with you hand position stick with it! your mind and hands work together and if you think of one or the other you will miss more. Try this, stand at the free throw line and study the hoop then close your eyes and imagine seeing the hoop and take a shot ,eyes closed. just a drill that works, also you can dribble with your eyes closed, it put more of a thought toward your game, these are only drills . good luck

well one thing u need to do is lift. You need to get stronger if you want to play V as a freshamn or ull get beat up inside and such. ANd outside for that matter... ALso lift your calf muscels to help you get a better vertical leap. ANd other than that u just need to take time and do like 100 layups for each side ever day...actually scratch that...dont do 100...make 100. somethign liek that ...make 50 if you want. ANd then take tiem to work out on your shot...and have a friend or brother or somethign help you out by moving around then you pass to them. Good luck

i am 14 too and i averaged 15 ppg on my ms team and u can increase ur hops by just standing on ur tippie toes and lift up and down until u feel the burn...its free and effective....i am 5`8 or 5`9 and can dunk 9 or 9.5 feet.....also when ur alone walk in around the house walk on ur tip toes as long as u can...both of these flex and inrease ur calf muscle
