Yes. No space, no us.
1. Our space(universe) started off in the big bang so I think it did not always existed. But they think there are infinite universes popping up like soap bubbles, so in that sense, you could say yes.
2. Space is filled with quantum fluctuations, and "strings"
3. Possibly. We may be too stupid to understand it.

We are currently IN space.
It is made of the same thing space is made up on earth. The stuff that fills the space is what is different.
I don't think it can be an artifact of human conscience. People have been there, and if that were the case, you would have to wonder, where in fact did they go?
- - -
To build on your question. If space does exist, is there an end to it? If so, what is past space?
- - -
I don't think there is an end to it. I think if you keep going out, it would be like a trip to Antarctica to find people, and the further you get away from here the less people you find (like finding matter as you keep going away from the center of the universe)
- - -
Edit:
And after a little bit more thinking... since time stands still as you approach the speed of light, your heart would have infinitely long to push your infinitely heavy blood... so as long as the trend is linear, you're good!

Space is a passe Classical physics idea.,which was called the Aether and It did make sense Then.
It has been replaced by space-time of General relativity, and now it makes sense to some physisits. However to us non Physisits its incomprehsible to be honest about it.
Most of us are now concerned with a more inovative space ;Its called Cyber space, what ever its made of. And relativity speaking its cyber Space-time.
The cyber space- time warp exceeds the speed of light.
Cyber space- time has to be massless otherwise the warping would not be able to move faster than light.

I think space exists. We do go out there in spaceships and whatnot right? But we can't know how big space is, or what it is in. Maybe we're like the mouse in the maze, and there are organisms like us watching everything we do, watching us make discoveries, like we discovered space. I do think space exists, and that it could be made of a substance we know of or one that we don't. either way it will just be classified by one of our words, a label. Can we ever know what it Really is made of?

Yes, but time doesn't. It has and always will exist as something is always something - only nothing can be nothing. Most everything is made up from human perspective, but space is real or you wouldn't be able to move.

What if it's like the undecided outcome of human consciousness? We could be mapping out our entire world - and beyond - with our minds right this very second.

Duh! When there is no-air, Vacuum?
How will mankind exist without knowledge of science?
We can create lifeforms, cure sick, patch missing DNAs... maybe create a new Earth/Solar System so our race can live on?
God given knowledge is God given power!
