Heart attacks present themselves in many different ways, especially in women. If it is making you nervous you should go get it checked out right away. It could just be a pulled muscle or something, but if you even slightly suspect it could be something more then you should go get some bloodwork done and an EKG.

1. Your mother is incorrect. She's probably thinking of a stroke, in which case she may or may not still be incorrect.

A heart attack can manifest as shortness of breath, pain on the left, center, OR right side of your chest, left OR right arm (though left is predominant) and even pain radiating down your left leg.

That said, arthritis in your shoulder can cause the same sensation. So can a panic attack. The bottom line is, if you show more than one symptom, i.e. left arm pain + cold sweats OR shortness of breath OR pronounced fatigue, go to the hospital right now.

You shouldn't even be reading this. Seconds are crucial if it IS a heart attack, and the cost of finding out its not is much less than finding out it is... too late.

Nobody here can answer that for you. You have to ask your doctor,, and I do recommend that if it continues you do see your doctor.

It usually means that the nerve is pinched somehow,, either by sleeping on it wrong, leaning on somethng that puts pressure under your arm, or something like that,,, in which case when you relieve the pressure it will wake up. If this is not the case and you are experiencing strong symptoms that don't go right away,, check with your doctor. If you also experience dizziness, or shortness of breath, chills and sweats,, weakness of other parts of your body, especially on the same side, blurred vision, slurred speech,, then see call your doctor immediataely.

It could be many different things. Pinched nerve, to fatigued muscles. As for heart attack it's a common mistake that it's numbness of the entire left arm. It can be arm numbness, chest pain, vomiting, faintness, shortness of breath, severe headache and more.
If it persists or becomes extreme, seek medical attention immediately.

If the pain is accompanied by a chest pain, your mother
may well be wrong. She may be thinking that you are too
young for a heart attack but cardiomyopathy generally happens
to younger people after stress or heavy exercize.

However, if you don't have a pain in your chest, you may
have pinched a nerve or slept on it badly. How long have you
had it?

If you've had it for longer than a couple of days
(OK, class, shout it out!) SEE YOUR DOCTOR!

it is definitely a sign of heart/pulmonary something. Stroke maybe? a nerve is being restricted somewhere along that line. does your left leg or foot also get numb or feel heavier? are you a smoker or a drinker or both? defiantly go to MD and do further follow up.

IT COULD BE HEART RELATED, I HAD MINE FOUR MONTHS AGO AT AGE 31. SO THERE IS NO TELLING. AND HEART ATTACK HAS NO CERTAIN PATTERN, SO AS LONG AS YOU FEEL PAIN, NUMBNESS, DISCOMFORT IN LEFT ARM, LEFT BACK SHOULDER, LEFT SIDE AND EVEN SOME TIMES THE WHOLE CHEST, AND WHOLE UPPER BACK IT COULD BE HEART ATTACK. I SERIOUSLY HOPE THAT IT IS NOT, BUT GET IT CHECKED....

It could be a sign of heart attack or stroke. Go to a ER to be sure. Better safe than sorry!

do you have pain anywhere else? chest, shoulder, jaw, are you sweating? left arm pain can be a number of things, a heart attack, pulled muscle, and many more things, if it continues to hurt I would see a doctor.
