Terrorism would exist in the world, but not likely within the United States if we were to isolate ourselves. You're right, the largest reason why were are hated by Al Qaeda among others is because we are involved in places such as Israel. However, in order to maintain our status in the world, and in order for the world to grow we need to be involved. Isolationism was all fine and dandy before World War One, but Globalization is the path to success now. In order for the world to become safer, world organizations such as the World Court and the World Trade Organization are needed. We need to choose out battles better in the future. President Bush has the right idea in wanting to sort out the mess that is the middle east, but using imperialism is not the answer. Somehow, I'm not surprised that he didn't learn that in school.

The problem is in the question, to return to something means we would have had to have been that at one time. The USA has never practiced isolationism. Because not only would be have to withdraw from foreign affairs, but we would have to close all borders as well to become isolated. And even then terrorism would exist, because terrorism isn't about the USA, the US is only a small part in a tangeled web weaved centuries ago.

Yes. There have always been terrorists.
What we now call terrorists used to be called names like "bandits", "bandits", "pirates" and the "barbarian horde". The names have changed, and so have the available weapons, but the threat has always been there.
I agree that the US goes way to far in intruding on others countries' activities. But the answer is not isolationism. That swings too far the other way.
We should get involved where were asked, and where we're needed. Not where we think we can change things to suit our own agendas.
It won't stop terrorism. But it will certainly improve our relations with other nations.

We have been hiding our head in the sand for the last 40 yrs. Terrorism has been plaguing Europe since the 60s. If it was not this, it would be something else.
When you are the best deal going, everyone hates you.

The only relation terrorism has with the United States is coincidental. It has nothing to do with isolationism. Kinda like Hitler and the isolationist Brits back in WWII. Wake up!! God Bless you.

we are the most convenient scape goat used by countries with horrible problems to divert the attention away from the fact it is the leaders in said country that are causing the problems, if you blame it on the US and get them to believe you, then you can do what ever you want.
