I've already done virus and spyware scans and removed them. The touch pad works, and I can click on things, but cannot type anything. I'd be grateful for any help.

Maybe the keyboards ribbon cable slipped out of it's little socket. Have a friend with some skill take a look at it.

Well there is 2 options 4 ur case :
1.There is a hardare problem with ur keyboard. Reboot laptop and try to access BIOS using DEL ESC F1 F2 or F10 button .If u can enter the laptot BIOS and navigate through menus then......
2......is a software problem . Try use an PS2/USB keyboard to access System Restore Utility . If this dont work try reinstal XP.

Is it a Dell Latitude? They are known for bugging out from the case being twisted from frequent lifting from the corner. Bend the laptop in the opposite direction and the keys work again.
If not a Dell then get one.

Try this. Go to control panel. the go to system properties. It might be known as system. Then click divice manager. There should be a list of divices of your computer. Click keyboard and then doubble-click the name of your keyboard. it should tell you if it is working or not. Then if it says its not working try troubleshooting it if you have troubleshooting.

Maybe your keyboard is borken. Take the keyboard out and put it back in and see if it still works.

The keyboard on ours broke and we took it to a repairman and he put in another. That may be what you need to do.

what you could do is buy a keyboard and plug it to your laptop you keyboard wont work because water or something got into it

try taking in apart an cleaining it if you have a warrenty for your lap top dont do anything just take it back and they'll fix it or replace it
