If you are just kissing on the lips you can catch any bacteria or virus they may be carrying in there...this includes cold sores (a form of herpes). So, don't kiss someone who has sores on their mouth or looks like they could be sick (that's kinda icky anyway) and that should help keep from getting anything terribly bad...basically, be selective.
Back when I was single, I kissed quite a few random guys and a few girls, but was careful as possible about it....the most that happened was I got strep throat once which was diretly traceable to a guy I met (I get that anyway just from being on campus, so no biggie) So, have fun, be selective by avoiding people with sores or other signs of disesese and odds are you'll be fine (but will be more likely to get sick than someone who only kisses people they know well).
